Now to the final matches for each group. We will start with Group 14, as we did the RRs, and work our way down to Group 1 and the finals there. I will flip the coin for the colors starting each match.
All match conditions will be exactly as the conditions were for the RRs. And of course the time controls will be 40/40 repeating as well- benched to adapt to CCRL 40/40 standards- just as they were throughout all the RRs.
I use CCRL benchmarks because it is simple: I used them for years- I am comfortable with them- I trust them.
The championship matches for Groups 2 thru 14 will be 24-game matches. In the case of a tie, a neutral party from TalkChess will flip a coin to determine which engine plays the white pieces. And they will play, switching colors after each game, until there is a won game, which = won match. If the white pieces win the 1st game- match over. He is group champion.
These matches will start tomorrow, and a minimum of 4 group matches will be run at the same time. There will be updates- no one will have to wait until the end to see any results.
When these 13 matches have finished- then the Group 1 championship match will be played. The only difference here will be that it is a 50-game match.
I have really enjoyed this whole project, and the work has NOT outweighed the pleasure. I had 2 programmers tell me it was this huge FREEWARE tourney that caused them to come back and start developing their engines again. Just that in itself was enough to make the whole undertaking worth it for me. Funny- when I looked back- I saw I posted the first update for Group 14 on Sept. 1st. Time seems to have flown by. If there is anything I have missed, please let me know.
Here are the engines in the championship matches for each group:
Group 14
--------
1.Marvin 1.3.0
2.Smash 1.0.3
Group 13
--------
1.KnockOut 0.7.1

2.Gosu 0.16

2.Typhoon 1.00-348
Group 7
-------
1.iCE 0.3
2.Delphil 2.9g
Group 6
-------
1.Rodin 5.1
2.Anaconda 2.0.1
Group 5
-------
1.cheng3 1.07 64-bit
2.Petir 4.39
Group 4

2.ProDeo 1.8.1
Group 3
-------

2.Naraku 1.4
Group 2
-------

2.Quazar 0.4 x64
Group 1
-------
1.Critter 1.6a 64-bit
2.Bouquet 1.6 pop64
One important consideration I missed. Most know- some may not. After each RR started, an engine with an updated version could NOT be used. He had to stay with the version he began the RR with. And the same goes for the championship matches. He must play the match with the version he started the RR with.
Good night- and Happy New Year to each of you!
george
