Hmmm...
Let's say 12 hours a day my computer is running full stop at chess. 40 cents per kilowatt hour. That's 1000 w @ 1 hr. Let's say my computer uses 333w in one hour, it is an overclocked CPU after all even if GPU is asleep. $40 every 3 hours, or $1.6 a day, $48 a month, $578 a year.

This is very true.
It is quite obvious that your consumer cost for electricity could be as low as it is in the US if you spent waaaay less on your electric power infrastructure. Dependable power is overrated :lol:
My home linux box has been up for 1.5 years continuously. We have machines here at UAB that have been up for over two years. And we don't use UPS anywhere. Perhaps the result of living in a big city or whatever, but power failures are very rare. Last one we had at my home was about 3 years ago when a power transformer blew about a mile or so from my house. Was back up in 4 hours, however.
