With Glaurung 2.0.1 I also obtained a 40% speed increase on the start_position.

Thanks again for your wise and thoughtful advice, Nid. since I'm a computer dummy, then you're correct to question whether I should deal with 64-bit driver issues.

That said, I should instead just purchase a good 32-bit quad to replace my present slow dual core.

Any recommendations where I should go to purchase a good quad, Nid? Any specs that you advise I should follow when building a quad for about $1200?

Thanks again in advance, Nid.

All the best,
Steve
Any shop that let's you do a custom order. I guess pretty much all of 'em does. can't give you any specific names though, cause I ain't from the U.S. . I'm not speaking about Newegg and such, cause they just sell you the parts. Don't wanna trouble you with assembling all the parts. All shops will do that it for you for a little sum.

Running a 64-bit operating system is a double-edged sword, You get a hefty speed boost and more memory, but on the other hand come with countless problems with drivers and certain programs.

Anyway, just build something like this:

CPU
Q6600 $214.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115017

MOBO
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L $69.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 813128059R

2GB/4GB RAM.. doesn't matter which brand as long as it's at least ddr2-667.. They are so cheap today so you have many options.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... DDR2+SDRAM

Case.. If you have one already, it could save you some $ and do well. if not http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129154 P180 is a nice case. $119.99

Same goes for HDD, Video card etc.. that depends on your needs. Shouldn't add lot to the overall cost.

Get a GOOD PSU though.. alot of users skimp on that part.. But this is very important for stability and product long life. especially when OC'ing.

Follow these lines and you'll be OK.. and it will surely be better than any Dell offer.
