Re: Houdini 3 vs ClusterRybka Game 4 ...
It won't be easy to win this against a +2700 Elo chess engine let alone a beast like Deep Rybka or Houdini.....Lavir wrote:It's obvious that the king is in an awkward position, but would you be able to win easily against a computer (or even an human) this position (the fatal word here is *easily*, because +2.5 means almost a piece more)?Dr.Wael Deeb wrote: It's pretty obvious actually.......

I would not, sincerely. While I can see that white is clearly better, a full continuation to win easily the game I cannot see.
This is +2.5, not +1.00.
I can't see the direct path crystal clear either, but with enough time on the clock and a slow squeezing playing technique,it can be achieved....
The master key here is to keep the pressure on the black king forcing it's army to a passive defensive position and winning the game.....
I guess that's what Houdini discovered long before us

Wow! It's NOT pretty, but obvious!Dr.Wael Deeb wrote:No idea whyHoudini wrote:Seven moves later, after move 38.Qg1.

Material still equal, but Houdini +2.43, Rybka +2.01. No idea why, white doesn't appear to be winning material.
Is this a 2 pawn positional advantage for the awkward position of the Black King?![]()

The black king's shelter is destroyed with the the king himself being shifted slowly to the center of the borad........
It's pretty obvious actually.......

White has now played nearly 20 moves without finding a crack in Black's defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see this game end in a draw, unless Rybka fails under time pressure.Lavir wrote:While I can see that white is clearly better, a full continuation to win easily the game I cannot see.

P.S. Note the nice 44.Ka1! threatening to bring the bishop to a2!

I don't think so Robert. Houdini now shows +3 in pondering.
If I had to play the game I would draw against strong opposition probably, but Houdini seems to have the path to victory clear.
EDIT: As for Ka1!, yes I noticed that move when it was made with the intention of Ba2. Houdini really plays these wonderful moves sometimes.
EDIT: And also notice too how Rybka instead didn't understood the motive of the move since it wanted to move the king back to b1!!!!

46.Bb1! is game over, but note that Rybka expected Kb1? after over 5 minutes thinking
