I think the original post was aimed at discovering how good a particular piece of software is. With 4.5 GHz on an i7-920, the "time" it takes to discover the result would be skewed.
Maybe a better postulate would be: "How many nodes" or "At which depth" does the discovery take place?
How long until your chess engine sees this position is lost?
