Fantastic tournament, Graham!

Is it too late to change, but could you have made it a 9-rounder swiss? With 8 rounds color imbalances can occur ( i.e 5 blacks, 3 whites).
(I'd meant to ask this earlier)

Money still on Houdini in this one :)

Regards,
CL

Thanks Carl.
Pretty sure that it's too late to change to an extra round, as the Deep Fritz GUI would then see that as a completely new tournament.
I reckon Houdini will end up winning the tourney too.

The results of 6th round:
Houdini v Schredder 1:0
Stockfish v Critter draw
Junior v Sting 1:0

In all the 3 games (like in many others) Black started with very difficult for engines positions.
These mean positions appear ad nausean.

My congratulations for Junior's authors. It was a great work. 8-)
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

The perfect opening book is hard to find, but I don't think that there have been any really obvious bad openings. Too many Sicilians though - I'd have liked more variety.

Graham, it is your circus and your monkeys, but it is rather a fancy show, and not a sport challange.

It is not a problem of book (choise).
The Garaham's computer is very fast (8cpu) and the time control is long 40/40.
It gives a chance that a much weaker (ELO) engine (WHITE) is able to win thanks to a good start position.
Many such positions need a knowladge (maybe much more time) or strategic abilities and even the best engines (BLACK) are not able to play in the correct way. It may lead to much weaker position. (example: Junior - Houdini or Spike v Critter)

For this reason the Graham's tournament can be only a interesting show. I like it. :D

BTW. Why B45 and E87 appear permanently? :?

If you look at the book in the initial position,
we see that only play 1.e4 or 1.d4

Only play the moves marked green.
The moves in red are ignored.

Once White plays 1.e4

the Black has only two answers.

1._c5 or 1._e6

The redness is ignored.

Once White plays 1.d4

the Black has only three answers.

1._ Nf6 or 1._e6 or 1._f5
The redness is ignored.

7th round started:
A next spectacular succes of weaker (ELO) engine:
Protector v Houdini: draw (King-Indian)
[d]8/2r3k1/6p1/4p3/Pq2PnBp/7P/R4Q1K/8 w - - 0 60
after 60. a5! Qxe4 61.a6 Nd3 62. Qxh4 Qc4 63. Rg2 Nf4 64. Be2! Qe6 65.Rf2 Nxe2 66.Rxe2 Qxa6 67.Rxe5 draw

BTW. In the last round Houdini may be Black.
