Why would Houdini's dominance be somewhat reduced if it is about 80 elo more than Strelka?carldaman wrote:This is not that surprising, Ray. Even when Strelka 5.x was first released, it was scoring very well in 1-core matches and tournaments.Modern Times wrote:Just a lucky tournament so far I think, these things happenS.Taylor wrote:Again, it is too much to ignore. Strelka results in this test have been unbelievable.
There is no multicore version yet, though if we only compare 1-cpu engines then Houdini's dominance is somewhat reduced.

Re: Round 23
It was a reference to Houdini 3 single core being weaker than Houdini 3 multicore, and therefore the gap between (single core) Strelka and single core Houdini being 'smaller'. I checked the latest CCRL 40/40 list and the difference is actually 69 points.
When the latest Strelka came out this year it performed very well against Houdini running on single core. The difference between Strelka and Houdini 2 (1-cpu) is merely 22 points on the same list. Houdini 1.5 (1-cpu) is actually rated higher than Houdini 2.0 (1-cpu).
Houdini 1.5a 64-bit 3184
Houdini 2.0c 64-bit 3174
Strelka 5.5 64-bit 3152
http://computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040/r ... t_all.html
There's no multiprocessor Strelka available for now.

Well, I suppose if you (anyone) keep talking about this, and Robert Houdart reads it, or even if you ask him about it direct, he gets irritated and upset, instead of being thankful that you are so interested in his work.carldaman wrote:It was a reference to Houdini 3 single core being weaker than Houdini 3 multicore, and therefore the gap between (single core) Strelka and single core Houdini being 'smaller'. [people who say worse things, he seems to get less upset about]
I suppose, that before i post anything about Houdini, I have to get the EXACT facts straight, first thing. Not to say what my impressions are, even if they are backed up.
I'll say one good thing, which is my impression only, that there is a good improvement between Houdini 1.5 and 1.5a. (or is that also, an insult, because maybe the improvement is from 1 to 1.5, and the difference between 1.5 and 1.5a is only because of a bug or technical error?)

So for those who only had a single proccessor, didn't need Houdini 2. And now too, are not that desperate, before Houdini 4 comes out.carldaman wrote:It was a reference to Houdini 3 single core being weaker than Houdini 3 multicore, and therefore the gap between (single core) Strelka and single core Houdini being 'smaller'. So forgetful ? 1.5a merely fixed an incompatibility in FritzGUI.S.Taylor wrote: ...

1.5 and 1.5a are identical chess-wise.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.
