Now 30 games are in the books, and the outcome is as impossible to figure as it was a dozen or so games ago. More so- in a way. At this point- it begs a lot more questions than answers. But then again, these were the 2 top finishers. So maybe this is the way it should play out. Well, since we are at a "dead draw" after 30 games, and some great chess is being played- and it is MY TOURNAMENT- I HAVE A CHANGE FOR YOU! And it gives neither an advantage as they are tied at the moment:
This match has been changed from 50 games to a 200-game match. It has big advantages- 1. I get to watch much more quality chess. 2. 200 games will lend more credibilty and accuracy to it. 3. Certainly Velmarin and Richard don't mind. They have not made one comment since the tournament began in September, since their group RR began- and even after this Freeware Championship Match began. So I have to assume they could not care less if a match is even played. Sad in a way. But 200 games it is.

You can read the reasons and a bit more in the 30-game update immediately above this thread- but this 50-game match has been changed to a 200-game match.

I am very grateful, but I will not dispute with you.
Thanks for everything, very interesting.
Nothing theatrical in this update. No heart-stopping games- no last second miracles. Just some damn good chess from two quality opponents who won't back down. 10 games played- 9 draws.

I would think that eventually one of these engines would begin to put a bit of distance between himself and the other. But so far, neither has shown the inclination. "Inclination" being the ability is there, but the scores don't reflect it.
I in all seriousness apologize to each and every one of you who work so hard on your programs. I overlooked an issue and let a program play in your group who had less business being there than a commercial engine would. At least you HAVE ACCESS to a commercial, albeit for $. I unknowingly at the time let an engine version play whose author has made it a Private engine- "The Baron." I shoulder the blame for not taking more care- it certainly had no business there.
Well, all I can say is neither engine has yet to give any indication that he plans on running away with this match. And maybe that is the way it should be.

15 more games in the books, and we have the biggest lead so far by either engine. Normally it might not seem like much, but with 42 out of 65 games drawn, wins have not been easy to come by. We shall see.

Well - if the odds are that high against Bouquet - and it hasn't been thrashed to pieces like it was expected to be - I congratulate Jose for an incredible achievement.
Well Matthew, I haven't really offered any concrete predictions, and the outcome- I haven't a clue. But at any rate- we have a bit of movement at the 76-game mark. Nothing major- as we haven't reached the halfway mark. But Bouquet needs to be very careful at this point. Because if Critter- before the 100-game halfway mark- was to add 3 or 4 more games to his lead now- it could get out of hand really quick. At the very least Bouquet needs to hold serve with the white pieces. And he is capable of cutting into this lead- a couple wins can come quickly. But OTOH, so can losses. We shall see.

Well, we have 98 games out of 200 in the books now- 2 short of the halfway mark. It looks as tho one engine has taken these last 20 or so games and turned on the afterburners. Awfully tough for one now- another run like this could very well be "lights out."

From games 77 thru 98 Critter has increased his lead from 5 games to 11 games. The one thing that I said Bouquet could not afford- happened. He has his work cut out for him now. We will see.
