UPDATE: Critter & Bouquet Pass the Halfway Mark!

Post by geots »

Well, I'm not ready to say "turn out the lights- the party's over". And there are still a couple over 80 games left. But soon, very soon, Bouquet has to begin cutting into Critter's lead. And he has shown no sign that he is capable of it. If he in fact can- now is the time.

Critter 1.6a v Bouquet 1.6- The Latest UPDATES!

21 more games played, and Critter's lead has again increased. Nothing that I can really add at this point.

I ran my calculator with the same parameters for Critter and Bouquet than other times:

Code: Select all

Probabilities_in_a_trinomial_distribution, ® 2013.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Probabilities of all possible scores in a match between two engines.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Write down the number of games of the match (up to 80):

64

Write down the engines rating difference (between -800 Elo and 800 Elo).
Elo(first player) - Elo(second player):

42

Write down the probability of a draw (%) between 0 % and  87.9699 %

57.35

Write down the clock rate of the CPU (in GHz), only for timing the elapsed time of the calculations:

3

End of the calculations. Approximated time spent in calculations: 54 ms.

The results will be saved into Probabilities.txt file, at the same path of this
programme.

The results have been successfully saved into Probabilities.txt file.

Approximated total elapsed time: 386 ms.

Thanks for using Probabilities_in_a_trinomial_distribution. Press Enter to exit.

In reality, draws are almost 67% of the games after 136 games; OTOH, Critter is up around 44 Elo after 136 games, which is very close to my input data of 42. Anyway, I obtained something like 0.0001% of chances of a tied match (100 - 100) and ~ 0% of chances for Bouquet being champion! I am not kidding. So, with more less 99.9999% probability I can say that Critter will be the freeware champion. Bearing in mind those probabilities, I want to congratulate Richard for this success, while I wish Chema better luck for the next time.

Thanks for your perseverance during many months!

Regards from Spain.

Critter v Bouquet- A Super Bowl Sunday UPDATE!

Post by geots »

Thanks for the analysis, Jesus. We have another update after 20 or so games, but how can your chances be worse now if your chance of losing 20 games ago was 100%. I must have been out sick when they covered that in algebra. :D Anyway- here we go and yes, "turn out the lights, the party's over."

XPS 8500 Intel i5-4 True Cores [40/19]
Fritz 11 gui/Fritz 13 gui
1CPU/64-bit where available
128MB hash
Bases=NONE
Ponder_Learning=OFF
Perfect 2012b.ctg w/12-move limit
40/21 Repeating OR
40/19 Repeating (Benched to adapt to 40/40)
Match=200 games

Code: Select all

Group 1 XPS-Core-i5  2013

Critter 1.6a 64-bit    +38/-15/=105   57.28%   90.5/158
Bouquet _1.6 pop64     +15/-38/=105   42.72%   67.5/158

With 42 games remaining- it is just too big a lead to make up now. But damn if Bouquet didn't give it a good shot. Nothing to be ashamed of, for sure. But it is not over until the 200th game has been played.

Critter v Bouquet: Congratulations To A Champion!

Post by geots »

This match is not the "best of anything", rather it is a 200-game match. So it will be played to its conclusion. Which I hope has taken place when I wake after some sleep. It has totally gotten out of hand. I haven't seen anything like the last 27 games. 12 of them were drawn, which leaves 15- in which Critter had a perfect score: 15-0. Yes, it is time for this to end. Here are the results to date:

XPS 8500 Intel i5-4 True Cores [40/19]
Fritz 11 gui/Fritz 13 gui
1CPU/64-bit where available
128MB hash
Bases=NONE
Ponder_Learning=OFF
Perfect 2012b.ctg w/12-move limit
40/21 Repeating OR
40/19 Repeating (Benched to adapt to 40/40)
Match=200 games

Code: Select all

Group 1 XPS-Core-i5  2013

Critter 1.6a 64-bit    +53/-15/=117   60.27%   111.5/185
Bouquet _1.6 pop64     +15/-53/=117   39.73%    73.5/185

As I said, I will play the match to its conclusion. But there is nothing to be gained by anyone in seeing the results after the final 15 games- so this will be the last posting for the match. Congratulations to both Bouquet and Critter- especially to Critter and Richard- as his engine is the "2012 Freeware Champion."

Nothing for Bouquet to feel bad about- he got to the finals when 10 other engines were not able to. It's not like he let a match win slip thru his grasp- he was just completely overpowered by a stronger engine.

So once again- congrats to you Richard- your engine performed admirably!

Best to all-

And the FREEWARE Engine Tournament CONCLUDES!

Post by geots »

It started the 1st of September- and 5 months and a couple days later it has come to a conclusion. As hard as it was at times to keep up, it will seem sort of empty when I wake and there are no RR or match games to check. Like, "I'm sitting here with 12 cores- what will I do now?" Maybe it's a good time to go ahead and get the i7 6-core system. That will give me 18 to wonder about.

At any rate- a lot of engines and a lot of games. And in the end we have 14 Freeware champions, with 1 overall champion. The cream of the crop. Let's list them one last time:

Group Champions
----------------

Group 1- Critter 1.6a 64-bit

Group 2- Hannibal 1.2 x64

Group 3- Naraku 1.4

Group 4- ProDeo 1.8.1

Group 5- Petir 4.39

Group 6- Anaconda 2.0.1

Group 7- iCE 0.3

Group 8- Typhoon 1.00-348

Group 9- Djinn 0.960.2 x64

Group 10- Mephisto Gideon Pro

Group 11- Chezzz 1.0.3

Group 12- Capivara LK 0.08b03 64-bit

Group 13- KnockOut 0.7.1

Group 14- smash 1.0.3

And once again, the complete PGN set for each RR:

I have not posted any of the PGN sets of the final matches- but I will be glad to upon request.

So I thank those for their interest, as I look for other mountains to climb. Nothing is on the table- nothing is off the table. We shall see.

Take care-
