Thanks! According to test results I've seen, this version seems to go beyond the scope of strength even compared to Rybka 4 et al. It is amazing.

:?: Is there any chance for a 32 bit executable running in Windows 2000 SP4? It says "not an appropriate Windows application" or something like that, on an old comp with P3 cpu and W2K. Some of the latest strong freeware engines run fine on this system, some don't. Of course Houdini 1.5 would be the most attractive now, from those missing in my collection...

(But it is not a big problem; thx anyway.)

Robert you mentioned that in the future you might consider releasing a version for the mobile platform, are there still plans for a PocketFritz or PocketGrandMaster version.I would gladly make a nice donation if this becomes a reality, I have already purchased the Naum 4.0 and 4.2 engines at a combined total of 35 Euro but am looking for something that is much stronger, from what I have heard it only takes a day or two for the port to be done, anyway congrats on your hard work and understand that you still want to make Houdini even stronger.

houdini performs about in line with other top programs, with an evaluation that slowly increases for the move from a pawn plus down to about half a pawn in this case after 30 minutes of thinking on 8CPU in 6mpv mode.

rybka 4 virtually instantly understands there is massive dynamic compensation with an invaluation in the seconds mark of ~-.28. i'll stop the analysis here after just a few minutes --

(this was also mpv 6, but as we all know R4 is buggy to the point of worthless with mpv)

won't clog the post up w/ more output, but rybka 3 dynamic instantly sees full compensation and even gives the move a slight plus. this no doubt comes at some sacrifice to elo, but i was absolutely astounded at the intelligence of the program when i first saw it. i think vas was right to focus on king safety in R4 & i believe it's still a step a lot of the other top free engines haven't focused on, for whatever reason.
Can you tell me from which game was this position taken? The name of the players and the year. Thanks. :)

Mike, no idea why it doesn't run, Houdini 1.5 doesn't require any CPU instruction extensions.
Could you give me the exact error message?

Alex,

I'd love to make a iPhone/iPad/Android version available, hopefully my work load will allow me to do this.
It will take a lot more than a day or two, that's a very optimistic estimate.

Hi,
I've just got my iPhone 4 and will be extremely pleased to have Houdini on my new toy :D

Yes, but it is in german language:

This says something like "...not a valid Win32 application".

I don't know if it is related to this, but I have recently installed the Microsoft VC++ 2008 Redistributable Package and it did not solve the problem. The engine Fire for example, works (and ran ok before that installation already). Neither working are Spark 1.0 nor Critter 0.90 here, but I guess that is due to SSE42 requirements.

Thanks.

It says that this is not an allowable Win32 application, because it is not a Win32 application. To run this application on Windows, you *MUST* have a 64 bit version of Windows. You can, however, run the 32 bit versions of these programs on 32 bit Windows. Please note that having a 64 bit processor is not enough.

Do you really think he's so ignorant to try to run x64 application on P3???
If you at least looked at the picture you would realize he's running w32 version of Houdini. And most probably the problem is in SSE2 that P3 is lacking.
