Hi Folks:
I know neither is out yet (I think Chessbase 10 comes out July 26th, and Chess Assistant 10 on Aug. 4th), but I figured you all are the most knowledgeable on the net when it comes to chess software (and I thought you might have some 'inside' info).
I'm trying to decide whether to pre-order Chessbase 10 or Chess Assistant 10. I have version 9 of both currently.
Question 1. Does anyone know if the web output (i.e. html/javascript) of Chessbase 10 has been improved any? While I use Chessbase 9 more than Chess Assistant 9, Chess Assistant 9 has a much nicer web/playable game output (the website visitor can change the size of the board, pieces, etc. while they can't in Chessbase 9).
Question 2: I've read the blurb at Chessbase.com regarding Chessbase 10. I couldn't find much info at the Chess Assistant site. Does anyone have a link, pic, or info on whether the graphics interface (gui) has been upgraded in Chess Assistant 10?
Thanks, Matt

It's just bigger database and bug fixes, so the jump in number from 9 to 10 is an exaggeration.ChessCommunity wrote:Does anyone have a link, pic, or info on whether the graphics interface (gui) has been upgraded in Chess Assistant 10?
I think right now the real battle is: Aquarium vs. ChessBase 10 (the ones that come with Rybka 3.)

Will the new Chess Assistant 10 use the Aquarium interface, or is that just Rybka?

Chess Assistant corresponds to ChessBase, because it is a chess database.ChessCommunity wrote:Will the new Chess Assistant 10 use the Aquarium interface, or is that just Rybka?
Aquarium corresponds to the Fritz GUI, because they are engine playing graphical user interfaces.
There is gray area because ChessBase and ChessAssistant can run chess engines and because the Fritz GUI and Aquarium can do database activities.
But the focus is:
ChessAssistant: Chess Database
Aquarium: Chess GUI

Future free upgrades of Aquarium are meant to render Chess Assistant obsolete, eventually.

And version 9 was version 8 with an opening training mode. So it would be Chessbase 10 vs CA8!Ovyron wrote:It's just bigger database and bug fixes, so the jump in number from 9 to 10 is an exaggeration.ChessCommunity wrote:Does anyone have a link, pic, or info on whether the graphics interface (gui) has been upgraded in Chess Assistant 10?

Well, at least they added something in that version.James Constance wrote:And version 9 was version 8 with an opening training mode.

So there really aren't any major changes with version 10 of Chess Assistant...Ovyron wrote: It's just bigger database and bug fixes, so the jump in number from 9 to 10 is an exaggeration.
I have noticed that I bought Chessbase 9 back in December of 2004. So its been about 3.5 years between version changes, while Chess Assistant has gone through a couple of versions since then ( 8,9?).
Since I already have Megabase 2008, I guess I'll go with the upgrade this time of Chessbase 9 to 10, and pick up Chess Assistant 11 in a couple of years when it comes out....
Matthew
P.S. I just checked out my 'regular sites' and I see that most have raised the price already for the Chessbase 10 upgrade since its out now. I did find that chessbaseusa.com still has it on sale for $100.00.

PS: I am surprised that the sale of Rybka on the ChessbaseUSA website is still just a little link on the left of the page.
