new engine entered CCT6/2004 - NoonianChess draws Rybka

Post by CRoberson »

One new engine was Rybka. It was initially ranked 53rd of 54 with a rating
of 2000. It finished in a 3 way tie for 48-50 with 2.5 pts. CCT6
had 9 rounds that year.

Code: Select all

    Round performances by Rybka were:
    1. Loss to SpiderChess (2396)
    2. Loss to Amyann (2292)
    3. Loss to Chiron (2200)
    4. Draw with NoonianChess (2128) -- Cool! I remember having a nice chat with Vas during that game.
    5. Draw with Tinker (2232)
    6. Loss to SEE (2196)
    7. Loss to Rascal (2295)
    8. Win with Tohno (1800)
    9. Draw with NullMover (2213)

The hardware was Athlon XP2600+ which was better than average
for the tournament.

Obviously, Rybka 1.0 was not the first version. Obviously, he had
work that was reasonable and more work to make it as good as
Rybka 1.0. Also, more work to make it much better than Rybka 1.0.

The historical way to make a clone accusation starts with "It makes
moves just like .....". Rybka seems original in its move choices otherwise
it wouldn't be rated so much higher than all the rest.
