Tigran Petrosian_selected positions_02

Post by Dr.Wael Deeb »

Botvinnink,M.-Petrosian,T.
Moscow 1966
Black's 15th move

[d]2qrr1k1/pb2ppbp/1pnp1npB/2p5/P1N1P3/3P1NPP/1PP2PB1/R1Q1R1K1 b - - 0 15

15....d5!
Demolishing whtie's superiority in the center of the board and it's rather a must move as Botvinnink was extremly dangerous squeezing his opponent slowly given the space advantage in the center of the board....
The game ended draw....

15....d5!
interesting position Dr.D
15 moves and all pieces and pawns are still on the board
the Saitek Centurion(1924 Elo) is now busy pondering away
initial move choice after 8 ply is 15..Bxh6 and a slightly positive score for white of +.2
interestingly it wants to play 16..d5 after white recaptures with the Q

ooops
as i am writing this we have a move change at 9 ply
now its 15..Bh8..Eval still +.2 for white

So Close And Yet So Far Regards

Hi Steve,
I promised only tough positions :D
Interesting enough,a lot of chess engines prefer 15....Nd4
15....Bh8 is way too passive for this position though....
I am begining to feel the fever of the dedicated chess units taking over me,is there a cure :!: :?:

:P

:P
nope
once smitten there is no cure
:P
you know Dr.D..
these positions are not going to be very popular as members with high powered computers and top engines will not be solving them so easily
certainly not within 3 minutes for sure
of course i am used to my dedicated master pieces not solving tough positions correctly ..but the engine experts here are not used to this
may i suggest..for your next position...
something a bit easier for the PC Engine members ..to give them encouragement

White to move and Mate In 1 Regards

You are conceptly right,but....people are never satisfied, directing them one way or the other....
The problem is that I am seeking positions with deep positional understanding in the first place, but of course there will also be positions that the members of this forum can solve with their engines....
Besides, easy solved positions won't be a great pleasure for the serious chess players and there are a lot of them here....
Come on,fire up your bigger units, let's see if one of them can spot Petrosian's move....
A challenger regards,
Dr.D

P.S.I like this one Steve,Dr.D sounds great, never thought of it before :D

the strongest dedicated computer in existence today is the Phoenix Revelation .. running on a 500 Mhz Xscale PXA255 processor
it has 8 onboard engines and the ability to use any PC UCI Engine at the speed of the host computer
Image

with the Rybka 2.2 on board engine locked and loaded its estimated rating is close to 2700-2750
Deep Sjeng 3.0 was just released for it and i am beta testing it for Phoenix

will give the position a go using DS 3.0

Results Soon Regards

Bingo!
DS 3.0 is showing d5 after 9 minutes and 14 ply
before this it wanted Nb4
it rates the position as behind -.18
intended line of play...
..d6d5
e4d5 f6d5
h6g7 g8g7
a4a5 b6b5
c4e5 f7f6
e5g4 d5b4
c1h6 g7h8
e1e2 c8d7
a5a6 b4a6
f3h4 h8g8
g2c6
will leave it running to see if it sticks with d5 or swtiches away to something else

Stunned Regards

well it did take it 9 minutes to find Tigrans move
in a tournament game it would probably not have played d5 but rather Nb4

still.. i am going to be polishing the Rev and treating it with extra special care for finding d5
:P
