Stockfish takes over top spot in CCRL FRC

Post by Graham Banks »

600 Stockfish 1.7 games have been played.

The pure list is here:
http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/40 ... _pure.html

In the pure database of 19,500 games, Stockfish is 6 ELO clear of Rybka 3. This database includes only the strongest version from each engine family, and thus eliminates any potential distortion in the ratings from having multiple versions of the same family. However the statistical margin of error is higher because of the smaller number of games.

The overall list is here:
http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/404FRC/

This database has 69,100 games and includes all games played. It will include potential distortion in the ratings from having multiple versions of the same family, but on the other hand with the greater number of games the statistical margin of error is less. Here Stockfish is 21 ELO higher than Rybka 3.

Stockfish 1.7 is approx 70 ELO stronger than 1.6 under these testing conditions.

For consistency with Rybka 3, Stockfish 1.7 will also play Loop. That game will be included in a subsequent update.

I also saw improved results with the 1.7.1 version of Stockfish vs Rybka 3.

The default version settings for 1.7.1 (zugzwang detection off) make the engine strength exactly the same as 1.7 according to the authors.

Cheers,
Graham.
