strange crash

Post by elcabesa »

I need your help, I'm out of ideas.

I have create a custom build for graham old computer (intel q6600).
I made a Vajolet with 64bit, sse2 without popcnt build.

Graham is able to launch it from console and it seems working.
when he try it with chessgui it simply crash at start, presumably before UCI command.

any idea?

Maybe you can make it to generate a crash dump to see where it crashes. Maybe is just in one invalid instruction for his CPU.

I suspect that with the interface you receive a command too soon.

Try to add a delay at start, after the various initializations and before the main input loop.

What do you mean by 'presumably' here? Have you seen the GUI log? When Graham operates it from the console, does he type the exact same commands as the GUI sends?

Note that crashes often lose output when the engine communicates through a pipe, so that you often cannot be certain where the engine crashes, unless it flushes stdout after every print statement.

Normally UCI engines should not do anything before they received the "uci" command, so it would be really strange if you already crashed before that.

SOLVED, without doing anything.

it looks like Graham pc & chessgui doesn't like the nema of my build.
"Vajolet2 2.2 old.exe"

renaming it to "Vajolet2 2.2old.exe" make everything work...... really strange

That sounds like a GUI bug, or perhaps improper installation by the user.
