More syzygy questions

Post by bob »

Does anyone have any sort of collection of positions with cursed wins and blessed losses? Ideally I'd like positions which get to 5 piece files quickly (my personal macbook has 128gb SSD so I can't store the complete 6 piece files unfortunately).

I want to make sure I am handling these odd cases correctly. IE I want to make certain that "swindle mode" kicks in if the only choice is a cursed win or worse, to search just cursed win positions to give the opponent a chance to make a mistake. Blessed losses are pretty much irrelevant to me other than to compare Nalimov results to syzygy since Nalimov will claim a forced loss which would be wrong...

So far, I miss the mate announcements, but otherwise, it looks pretty reasonable. And it is certainly much faster accessing WDL than Nalimov, where with Nalimov I had set min remaining depth to probe to 6, while for syzygy I am running at 0, 1 or 2 and testing them....

When you create the 5 man TB's , there is text file that would have the longest cursed win and cursed loos for each position. I'm re-creating the 5 man tbs now.

But here is one I found the web.
[d]8/8/8/8/1p2P3/4P3/1k6/3K4 w - - 0 1
best play with 50 move rule turned off. I have customized version of polyglot that allows you to play it out - otherwise polyglot will claim the draw on behalf of the engine even if the engine does;t know about the 50 move rule.
Edit: this is also one position where old crafty with Nalimov will say it's a win, but it's not with the 50 move rule.
