I have never seen anyone else test with just increment, no base. We never test this way or anything even close to it, nor does SF as far as I know. It may be that our time management is very poor for this type of TC, I'll have to run some tests to find out. Note this is very different from just testing at say 5 seconds per move fixed time (movetime), which of course is fair in that time management doesn't even play a role. I don't know if this was a problem, but I don't think it makes much sense to run matches at time controls utterly unlike what the developers and testers use.

It's also a time control that creates weaker chance at similar total time than going with reasonable base+increment.

I wouldn't read too much into it however, 40 games is heavily subject to small sample size effect. The serie began +0=3-10 before finishing with a sequence +0=19-8.
