Hi all,
I have the pleasure to test both the UCI and ChessBase engines of Sh11 and DSh11. I have a core2Duo 1.88MHz processor (2 Threads).
Unfortunately for the Shredder funs (i'm one of the greatest lovers of Shredder), Rybka is still leading by a confortable margin of 50-75 rating points, especially in the Blitz time controls. My testing on slower T.C tends to tell that Shredder will be a hard opponent for Rybka, but still Rybka may lead.
For Shredder, S.M.K must work on the time management of the moves, because till now Rybka is really the most astonishing, playing very very fastly even in bad positions. These abilities let him win many many "loosing" positions that arose from very complicated games, those games proove also that the searching algorythms of Rybka on fast Time Controls are the most precise in engine engine matches. But studying some correspondance games, i still prefer the Shredder engines and the Zappa Mexico engine.
I also definitely find that the ChessBase and UCI engines are not similar even if based on the same knowledge. You have just to analyse the same positions for 1 minute to see that the two engines deliver different evaluations (some times difference is as high as 0.35 points, almost half a pawn value). But i find that the evaluations of teh ChessBase engine are the most accurate (less optimistic) than that of the UCI engine (i haven't tested the Shredder GUI a fantastic one, all the tests were on the CB GUI).
I started a few days earlier to search an anti-Rybka setting for Shredder. A hard task, but it seems i'm succeeding in this hard task. I still need a few more days to validate my work and result. For the first time, i saw an engine which plays very aggressive chess, with different evaluation profile and "different ideas" and that's giving Rybka a hard time. So visit this page regularly.
I'm also thinking about opening again a new homepage where all the results and settings will be available.
God save Shredder and Rybka.
Hope also i'm not gonna be disappointed with Fritz11 as i was with Fritz10 (Flawless evaluations ++) even if the latter is a strong engine.

Hey there. I still remember you old page and the great Shredder 9 settings!
I was actually going to ask if you have any new settings in the works for Shredder 11 when I saw you registerd.
So good luck and hopefully you can improve Shredder again. ofcourse it's impossible to excpect it to lead Rybka but at least to bring some improvment.
Best,

There is always the solution of getting Rybka into a 500 Mhz and Shredder 11 with the latest and fatest hardware Processor.Nid Hogge wrote:Hey there. I still remember you old page and the great Shredder 9 settings!

A better option would be to not play against Rybka. Or you could always pull the plug if Rybka is going to win the game.pichy wrote:There is always the solution of getting Rybka into a 500 Mhz and Shredder 11 with the latest and fatest hardware Processor.Nid Hogge wrote:Hey there. Hi Nid
Just a precision, my settings were for Shredder 7.04 and Shredder8. I worked a little bit on Sh9, not having enough time and i haven't improved it's playing strength as i did with the previous versions.
Now i'm back again to kik Rybka's...... with the help of a new tuned shredder11 setting. I must say that the task seems to be very very hard. Rybka is such an impressive engine, but it's possible to beat him. My current objective is to tie the match with Rybka, not to win the match (which is already 50-75 points higher in the rating of Shredder). It's possible to tune Shredder against Rybka , but i 'll also test the new engine setting vs the other top engines.

Nice to hear from you Haddad. I remember the long list of settings in this site: http://members.lycos.co.uk/chesslovers/zied/index.html
They maybe old, but still useful for future adaptations on newer versions.
ShredderII may need some special settings as Rybka is not that easy to deal with. It would be nice to see some developments with your experiments.

Do you have the shredder 8 settings or are they the same as shredder 9? I still have the old version because i found it in my storage. Sad to say shredder doesnt' stand much of a chance against Rybka. Rybka is definitely finding much different and better lines in it's moves. Thanks.

The setting of shredder 7.04 doesn't work as a good setting for Shredder11. With it he can play a little bit more agressively but without an outstanding improvement.
