SCCT - Ponder OFF/ON (Final Standings)

Post by Sedat Canbaz »

Hello Chess Friends,

The both tournaments with 'Ponder OFF/ON' are already completed and for a better conclusion is needed more games...
But anyway it seems the pondering on/off did not make a big difference in the the standings comparing between each other with 'Ponder ON and OFF'

And as i expected the Winner of the both tourneys is Deep Rybka 4,just only Stockfish 1.8 (with ponder off) surprised me,
but with a big possibility it needs more games to be played for ranking at second place

For Final Standings:

Hi Sedat,

I can see the conditions but not the table with the final results.
Checked with Opera 10.61 and Internet Explorer 8.

Perhaps you are working on this detail page?

Best
Frank

PS: I downloaded the games, so I can look in ChessBase 10 :-)
THANKS !!

Interesting results after 100 games. Naum 4.2 without ponder better as Stockfish 1.8.0 (can be random). Bad results for Shredder with 4 Cores I think (with and without ponder). Very interesting. All other results are very clear, also after 100 games only.

Nice tournament !!

Without Ponder database:
Zappa won vs. Shredder after 21 moves. Interesting game.
Also very nice fast game by Protector 1.3.6 vs. Stockfish 1.8.0 1:0 (30 moves). Will be analyse in the evening.

Hello Frank,

I have checked the game between Zappa and Shredder too,yes...very short win and well played by Zappa Mexico,as we see the game is B97 opening-very critical opening for both sides, everything can happen with a such openings

And its interesting to note (in Perfect 2010 book),normally in the beginning of B97 position, almost all engines show approx. - 0.50 and more disadvantage, but furthermore,in the middle/end of the games the score values are changing dramatically

And it seems these conditions for Hiarcs 13.1 T4 and Deep Shredder 12 x64 T4 did not suit well,e.g the both engines have much better ranking at slow time controls with ponder on:

Btw,another interesting note that Deep Shredder 12 is the only engine which has same points (48/100) in both tournaments

Greetings,

Hi Sedat,

yes, in the past, with my older ATL-4 tournament I plays for around 4-5 years, I do the same. On one machine I plays with ponder and on one machine without ponder. I mixed the result to one ELOtable. This is OK I think.

Really nice games the engines played. I replay much of the games in the afternoon. I think the programmers will be happy to have that.

OK, different of them aren't looking in the games, only in the statistics.

My interest goes to the fast games. I like fast tactical king attacks and collect such games since years :-)

Hello Frank,

Yes...normally we can not use the blitz games for a serious analysis, but sometimes the fast games give us fun and its interesting to watch them,at least we don't need to wait long time about what kind of move will play the engine :)

Btw,for example in my SCCT (10min) i always test single processor engines with ponder on/ off
•Pondering is enabled only when:Single-Processor against Single-Processor Engine
•Single-Processor Engines play against MP engines with ponder off
