IMO you cannot relate CM with CTiger, Hiarcs or Genius.
CTiger is written in 68000 code and is running in the RISC palms as emulation, but reaches a high rating. even better Genius and the master in the palm league so far is hiarcs cause the later 2 use the ARM code for the chess engine.
IMO CM only runs as java program. not so strong like the 3 not mass market programs.
similar situation on mobiles. my genius uses the RISC operations of my mobile (Nokia 3650). i downloaded Shredder for that mobile, but the features were IMO horrible. the operations anti-intuitive and IMO it runs as java. now java is nice, but IMO slow.
is there a chessmater for palm? Anybody have link?
That may be true, but I still prefer the PDA to the cellphone for chess purposes. The main reasons being screen size, batterylife and processing power.Quite often I use my PPC when wanting to quickly check a game of mine for blunders etc.Ever since Palm and Dell stopped making dedicated PDA machines I have seen the prices increase in online auctions for the latest PPC and Palm.
I should have provided more detailed in my response or perhaps eve quailfied my response. Everything you wrote above is right on target.
Standalone PDAs are better for chess than cellphones:
More user friendly
Stronger
Better Programs
Bigger Screens
Faster Processors
and the lists goes on.
Also, I was surprised by the price holding power of the older PDAs especially on ebay. But as you pointed out , the plain old PDA is just about dead - nobody is making anymore them.
Thanks for your post - it's a more complete analysis.
Palm Regards,
Michael
