EasyWay, did not start out as an epd file. That was done by someone else. EasyWay.pgn was never intended to be used directly by any engine. It was meant as a resource for programmers and testers to cull their own positions from it for testing. It merely consist of all the colums from the book, "Chess Openings the Easy Way", by Nick de Firmian. If anyone wanted to use EasyWay.pgn directly, then the file would need to be edited first to get rid of all the 'bad' end points (lines). Just did not want anybody to have a wrong idea about what the EasyWay.pgn file was all about!
Thanks Michael for pointing this out :D

Yes, Strelka 1.8 seems to manage its time better than Rybka beta. Never lost on time in my tests.

I would think it is reasonable to use Easyway for a 1600 games nunn match. The bad lines balance out and I assume there isn<t a disproportionate amount of them. When there are fewer bad lines, there are usually more tame positions too.

You are correct. There are not many bad lines! :)

Is the sampling done with or without replacement? I'm asking because I'm not sure how Arena (is it what you used?) does it.
I did use Arena, and I'm also not sure how arena does it. Looking at the settings, I would assume that arena does it just the wrong way, which means, that the same opening position can be played many times.

I suppose I'll just increase the amount of moves, and decrease the amount of games, that should do for now.

I'll change to Strelka 1.8 to get rid of the time forfeits, thanks for the advice. If someone can provide a link to a really good opening test suite pgn, I can also change that one.

Fruit-061115a vs. Strelka 1.8, new result

Post by Tulevaisuuden »

I ran a new match, Fruit-061115a vs. Strelka 1.8, timing 1+1, a general book for both.

The result: Fruit lost, 481,5/1000.

Statistically this is almost significant, but not quite. I might run another 1000 games, just to become more certain.
