Solaris is definitely a viable system if you are going for a Unix distribution.. But I would rather run a BSD system any day. There are two good FreeBSD distros aimed at desktop users. While I'm partial to PC-BSD there is nothing wrong with DesktopBSD or the new graphical front end for vanilla FreeBSD.

If you want I can download and burn and distro you want.

Would offer to do the same with the Intel compilers, but while they do offer them for free for educational useage, I dont think I'd be allowed to burn and distribute.

Haven't checked in a while, but I dont think icc was *that* big. Might be an over-nighter but definitely within 56k range.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your offer. I may take you up on it! However, I have set myself a deadline of June 1st 2008 to have my new chess program ready and I think that I should stay with what I know, for now. As much as I hate Microsoft I just hope that 64 bit vista will let me test 64 bit compiles.

I went shopping for a quad yesterday at Best Buy and Circut City. I discovered that not one single computer--duo or quad--came with a 64 bit version of Vista. And I could not buy the 'cheap' version of the 64 bit Vista off of the shelf. Only the $400.00 version was avalible and it requires a 1000 MB computer to run on--unbelieveable.
