Well, that is your right do decide, of course. Although I would, as a matter of principle, blook kindly upon organizers who would let participants decide who can participate, and who not. They have rules, and must abide by it. If they would violate their own rules under pressure of other participants, it would be a reason for me not to join their tournament.

So in the end we pick tournaments with rules that we think acceptable. I would not find a rule like "GridChess is not allowed to participate" acceptable. How exactly would you formulate rules that would disqualify a 'co-operative' effort like GridChess without explicitly naming it, without naming any engines or authors?

I thought I read a post from Bob saying that he did not give permission. Peter should know about it, he is a crafty team member.

Hello all

Just as an information - asking around here in Paderborn it seems that the fans out there have much more concerns about Gridchess then the available programmers on site!

It is just a game!

IPCCC 07 begins day after tomorrow, only few programs have so far registered but they are all strong.

Code: Select all

1.Diep
2.Gandalf
3.Gridchess
4.Hiarcs
5.Isichess
6.Jonny
7.Rybka
8.Deep Shredder
9.Spike
10.ParSOS
Is Gridchess eligible in all of the tournaments? I thought it heavily borrows code from Fruit and Crafty, parts of crafty/Toga/Fruit with some changes made and runs on a high performance cluster?

anyway,i think Rybka would win this, with Deep Shredder/Hiarcs/Gridchess in for a close fight for the second spot.

I am not sure if you are talking about the WCCC or Paderborn here.

IIRC for the WCCC, Bob posted here that he was against developments like GridChess participating, but did not want to block its entry by withholding permission. And only the latter is relevant.

If GridChess is also based on Toga, don't they also need permission from Thomas?

Hello Ingo,
that are the most wise words i have read here for month!! Thanks a lot for your statement.

by the way i never tried to participate in any tournament with toga. but i think for some people it is fun to participate. and thats ok. i give everyone the permission if he likes to participate with an derivate from toga.

bye

thomas

P.S. toga is also only a fun project. i have max. 2 hours a week time to work on toga. and i am so happy that fabien gave me the possibility to have fun with his program.

Thanks Thomas

BTW: "Gridchess" is not participating but "Cluster Toga"!

No more Crafty-code is in use anymore!
