Sometimes the engines don't correctly evaluate the positions straight out of book, so it's best to let games run their course and replay if necessary.Spock wrote:Well I ran some test matches first before the tournament itself, and in a couple of games the engine evaluations out of book were around 1.0 - higher than I'd like. You never really know with these things and how they would have turned out. Who knows, the engines may have just got it wrong and not understood the positions properly. That's highly likely. I use Harry's books exclusively these days, they have my vote of confidence. Note my use of the word possibly

You know Graham, the 12moves.abk is a new experiment and if Ray
has found something not OK before the update from yesterday,he can replay.
Thanks to you both for the appreciation and the nice words !

Well the tournament itself is experimental and just a bit of fun - indeed I don't think I've ever run a tournament in Arena before for example - which is why I also tried a new book as well, just to make things really interesting for me

Welcome to the anti-adapter fanboi groups lead by goat.Spock wrote: Arena better. I don't use it normally, but having the winboard stuff running natively rather than through an adaptor just seems the right thing.

Well wb2uci seems to work perfectly and I've always used it in the past, and although I've never used polyglot that also seems to work for people, so I don't see anything wrong with adaptors. But this tournament was all about doing things differently, so..... who knows I may actually get to like ArenaTony Thomas wrote:Welcome to the anti-adapter fanboi groups lead by goat.Spock wrote: Arena better. Using an adpater when Arena is around is like using a hearing aid without any hearing problems.Spock wrote:Well wb2uci seems to work perfectly and I've always used it in the past, and although I've never used polyglot that also seems to work for people, so I don't see anything wrong with adaptors. I guess its an acquired taste, kind of like beef liver, or viena sausage. You will get used to it if you play with it long enough. It probably doesnt have the nice graphics of chessbase, but it is absolutely free.Spock wrote:Yes - but I don't normally use Arena at all ....Tony Thomas wrote:
