If I had to take a guess, UCI engines pretty much follow what's given in the WB2uci file unless you set a common hash for all UCI engines. In arena I have an option to click and unclick common hashtable size, so there is probably something similar under chessbase GUI's as well. I dont own any chessbase products, but I dont think it is relevant to the answer that I gave.
I think you are probably correct. I was merely trying to clear up a misconception that i "thought" you had. My apologies. But i wonder the same thing Ray does about what you meant by a wb2uci file for a UCI engine. What would it do with one?

Most of the time engines use the configruation file only as a winboard engine. As a UCI engines they are pretty much sock puppets, they do what the GUI tells it. May be someone else with better knowledge in protocol can explain better. I dont think that if you are using Zappa as a UCI engine, you can change the parameters by adjusting the configuration file, you would have to do it under the UCI options. I should go to sleep, I am not making any sense.
I get the idea that you are very familiar with Arena. I would like to upgrade mine from my (prehistoric) Ruffian period to the current one.
I see that the last version is 1.99, but there are several (beta) versions of it.
So, could you recommend a stable version?

As a side note, the 64-bit version also refuses to be created as a uci engine under the Shredder GUI but can be created perfectly under chessbase GUI. Under Shredder GUI I get a message that it isn't a UCI engine. The 32-bit version registers fine, but the 64-bit version doesn't. I've emailed Shredder support. Same behaviour on 2 machines, one XP X64 and the other Vista X64.
Hi,
I have noticed the same thing, when I wanted to install Zappa Mexico II x64.exe under Shredder GUI ! "It is not a UCI engine!"
