Hi Albert:
Respect what you say of downloading stuff as the better way to get it, I, in all class of programs, not only chess, followed that path for years, but in the same period I have suffered many loses due to:
a) formatting the HD without remembering to back up
b) spontaneous crashes of the system and then again the formatting
c) do not remember where I left the setup
d) worst, password lost so the program becomes in-usable. This simple thing has been the main reason of my loses.
e) many more contingencies
Instead, a CD kept in a drawer does not harm itself and there you have it for ever.
I do not reject downloading; I only say get also a CD.

My best

That I will get anyway. But they offer a lot. Not only Rybka, but a new, gorgeous GUI.

Partner GU for Smarthink is old fashioned and awkward. Not enough to add for the price.

I think that the upgrade is 10 euros less than the full price rather than 10 euros, isn't it?

It is a bargain if and ONLY if you assume the GUI is worthy that money. I do not think so.
First, is not precisely a great, pretty GUI.
Second, when the day came GUIs are sold separately?

I think you might actually get more than that in discount. When I clicked the upgrade after logging in it showed $49.03, but I only paid 41.02 so I got another 8 dollars off.

I dont know why, I always support the underdog. I have yet to buy Rybka, but I have all the other commercial engines besides Fritz and Loop.
Well,if you ever chance your mind and want to be a member of the inner circle, here is my advice: buy a quad or octa, put a fish in a bowl on top of it and watch the little critter swim in circles

I am already an inner circle member of the smallest group that is hardest to get in to. To gain a membership of our inner circle, you should have played at least 20 games with at least 400/435 or so engines that are currently available..and I dont even need a quad or an octet.

I understand the problems you describe, and it probably depends very much on the service. For example, I own a game called Galactic Civilizations 2 (plus the respective expansion packs), a game like Civilization where you build an empire, and I bought it via download from Stardock. Stardock keeps track of your data, so if I lose my HD, I just download it again using my password data. If my data such as login and password are also lost, I can recover that from them (if I forget my name too, I may have more serious problems than recovering the game...) and then re-download the whole thing. Note that services such as Stardock and Steam, are especially designed for acquiring software online, and avoiding the problems you described, but not all are like that it is true.

Well a goldfish is about $8. A good tank cost about $350 but I think a small cheap one will work if its just 1 fish.
