My advice for you if you want a heache free upgrade is the following:
Totally remove any old updates
Totally remove the programd DF11 (or whatever GUI version you are using)
Do a clean re-install and start the program once (put serial number)
Do the new update
Reboot
So far this has been the only safe and fail proof way I have been able to upgrade. Sometimes you can simply upgrade over an old upgrade ... and sometimes you can simply remove an old upgrade and do a new upgrade ... but most of the times doing the above will cause problems. So I tend to follow the above mentioned installation procedure anytime I want to do an upgrade.
