After a few years of trying out the Windows world, XP and Vista messy OS versions and service packs, i will now return to my beloved Mac OS.

For the outside chance that W7 will provide some benefit compared with Vista, VMware or Bootcamp will provide for the opportunity under Mac of running Windows-only programs when needed.

Come on MS-slaves, it's time to leave the blue screen era behind, unchain and move on to a world where the operating system is simple and stable and not Pacman-ing half of your system resources.

Best OS-regards,

Kaj

Why should you? kNPS is determined by machine speed, it has nothing to do with OS.
That's not 100% correct. For example, if I run Rybka with a 2GB hash table on Windows XP I get 20% fewer kN/s than if I run Rybka with a 2GB hash table on Ubuntu Linux using large (2mb) pages rather than the 4k page size used on Windows for Rybka. As far as I am concerned, until such time that Rybka can use large pages on Windows, this improvement has everything to do with the OS!
You are comparing different types of OS, which has different filesystem - different binaries - different types of kernel - different types of memory management. There is every reason there will be difference in performance.

While there is no reason why there should be any noticeable performance difference within family of Windows OS. XP - Vista or W7; which he was clearly referring to.

Do you see any performance difference between Ubuntu Hardy heron and Fiesty for Rybka? I highly doubt it, even though fiesty is quite a bit faster than hardy.

I use Mac - Vista and Ubuntu. I am a computer geek/nerd first - fanboyism is a second choice.

I never had a BSOD on windows since I started using Windows 2000 server SP2. While I did have a kernel panic on the last OSX macbook firmware update (reboot twice). Ubuntu has been the most stable OS for me so far.

It's just an OS. Shit happens.

I'd love to use MacOS but the hardware is just too expensive compared to PC hardware where I am able to upgrade components as and when I can afford them. If I win the lottery I will though...
