You missed out move two - 2. Rg7 Qf8 and I also think that e4 should be played just before Qxe6!

Anyway very well done for spotting the white player in this game. 8-)

Fischer played 34. Be5 instead of Rxf5!
There are a couple of reasons why Fischer played 34 Be5 rather than the flashy 34 Rxf5 & Rg7 and then sacrificing the queen:

* There's always the possibility of a mis-calculation. Fischer would be down a queen for a piece if black had a miracle defense. It's true that this would be extremely rare in Fischer's case, but he reasoned, correctly, that he didn't have to take this chance.

*Fischer himself admitted that he liked to "see his opponents squirm". It's almost as if he wanted to win the game as slowly as possible. I wonder if Anderrson actually squirmed after 34 Be5. Here he was, down one exchange, being threatened with another.

Fischer knew that he would eventually win after 34 Be5 without risk.
Now cracks a noble heart.—Good night, sweet Princess, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!

The Rook is already on g7, I was careless in writing the forced line. 1. Rxf5..gf 2. Rg7..Qf8 3. Qxe6!..Rxe6 4. f7!! although computers like 3. Qe2, but I'd go with the prettiest kill. 3. e4!! is very good, I suspect a computer suggested that move to you. 3. Re7 is devestating but lacks the flash. I solved this position back in the early 80's and it wasn't until the late 80's that computers could find it.

Fischer did play Be5!? but his excuse not to play the combination was to cover up the fact he didn't see it clearly. He was embarrassed!
