Last time I tried it, it didn't work properly.
Which version did you try, wasn't that 0.3d?
I did fix that FRC castling bug you reported in version 0.4a.

Perhaps you can try 0.4a and let me know in case it shouldn't work?

I tried 0.4a back in October, and it played 8 games OK, then lost 2 on time, and then completely crashed the Shredder GUI. I've just downloaded it again and am trying it under ChessGUI, which is what I now use. Fingers crossed :)

Thanks, Allard, for the timely release of the engine Bright!

Enjoyed chatting with you at ICC, and watching Bright play was captivating and it was a thrilling contest the last two days! :D

The download may be new but the binary is not changed, so you could still run into problems, presumably with the shredder gui.
I find it odd that any engine could cause a crash of the gui, though.

Naturally I'd like to fix all FRC bugs, could you perhaps e-mail me any problem games and/or logs you might have?

Will do. I don't have the original games or logs, but will email you anything that comes up. I didn't really press it at the time, becuase I'd decided that I'd rather not have any more private engines on the list. Now it is public, well I'm very keen to get it on there.

Hi:
In Fritz running in my Duo Core 3 Gigahertz, 2 Giga ram machine, 400 mb in hash, Bright calculate around 3 Kn per second. Is that right?

could be :)
bright reports knps searched, which is a UCI protocol violation, it should
be nps. If you're getting normal depths reported then there is no problem
and the phenomenon is caused by Fritz reporting bright's knps as nps.

On the other hand, if you have other processes running that consume too
much cpu or if the hash is set too high (causing it to be swapped to disk),
the search _will_ slow down to a crawl, resulting in very shallow depths
(trouble getting >depth 10 for example) and very bad performance.

I decided to make version 0.4a public, it can be downloaded from:

http://members.ziggo.nl/allard.siemelink/bright/

major changes include search and (king safety) evaluation,
resulting in more attractive play and a ~50 elo gain compared
to version 0.3a, the previous public version.
Thanks for he new engine Allard.
Thanks to Dr. Deeb for the book.

Very best to you,

Gerold.

In fact Bright goes very deep, around 15-16 and more after one minute search in my gear, so all is OK.
thanks
