Which reminds me... I wish guests would log in to Harm's server this weekend and watch the games.CThinker wrote:Just like in FICS, you just login with any unregistered name. The server will automatically treat you as guest. But unlike ICC, guests on FICS (and Harm's server) can do anything, including play games, join channels, watch, chat, etc.Spock wrote:Is there a guest account on HG's system ?

Perhaps H.G. will post how to connect to his server in this thread? If so, then CCC readers would be able to observe the matches.CThinker wrote:Which reminds me... I wish guests would log in to Harm's server this weekend and watch the games.

That was the IP address last time. I'm guessing it has not changed.

Re: On-line blitz tourney May
is it also possible to connect with Arena ?
for me is Arena perfect as UCI engine, because watch many engine output informations. No need with winboard a polyglot adapter, runs 1:1
but the ICS features are not very good, i wish Martin Blume improves this features for ICS
better Shredder Classic GUI but this have not a ICS features. Fritz have only access to his self playchess server, why not access to other ICS with Fritz ??

Can any UCI engine connect to server with Arena, or must engine contain special ICS code ?
Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

I've not seen the guest problem. We play unrated games which should be viewable by _anyone_.CThinker wrote:One big limitation to me is that guests on ICC cannot watch games or chat.bob wrote:What are the "limitations of ICC"???CThinker wrote:Btw, I would like to propose that we use your server for the next ACCA event. Saturday May 9, 21:00 CET
(This is 3pm EST and noon in California)
New participants, please post your intention to join the tourney here, so I can prepare a login account on the server in advance.
You server is definitely compliant with the "necessary subset" of the ICS protocol.
They have excellent bandwidth, excellent internet access point, right in the heart of the internet backbone in fact. Which is an important point. Not to mention timestamp and such.
As for timestamp, FICS and FICS-like servers have timeseal.
I also don't think bandwidth is an issue with Harm's server. Chess is not a high-traffic service. Definitely not in the media (audio/video) class. With timeseal, lag should not be an issue either.
And yes they have timeseal, something that was hacked in the past so that it became yet another way of cheating.

Re: On-line blitz tourney May
Here is a necessary thing for important online events: You need good connectivity. Most end-users come in thru some ISP that has a single route out. It takes some financial resources to provide more than one link so that routing congestion, or even midpoint failures on a single route do not completely disrupt the event.Engin wrote:How sounds this server to name Computer Chess Club Server = CCCS ?
and we use this always for online computerchess tounaments ???
I would not host such an event from my home, as an example. I use BellSouth for my DSL connection, and I run into occasional trouble where I can not connect to talkchess while I can reach other places, or cases where I can not connect to my office but can connect to mit.edu or whatever.
The more remote a location, the more it is subject to various forms of routing failures. That is one problem ICC doesn't have. Occasionally a remote user will have a problem connecting, but we have never had any sort of total failure during any of the online events we have held on ICC. They are in a network "hotspot" with hundreds of alternate routes to get to them, rather than being a remote network endpoint where a single failure can be a major problem

Guest cannot chat or join channels. How can they know who are in the tournament, who is playing, what games are in progress, etc?bob wrote:I've not seen the guest problem. We play unrated games which should be viewable by _anyone_.
Things that guests can do on ICC are way too limited, the experience is really pretty bad.
