I just did a 50 game Engine Match with Stockfish 1.4 (64-bit) versus Deep Fritz 11. Each engine only used 2 cores. I am very impressed with the results so far that I have seen from the latest version of Stockfish.

Settings:

Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6700)
3,4,5, and 6 Man Tablebases
Deep Fritz Opening Book
8 GB Ram
Ponder On
Hash 1024

Performance of this fish has been a very positive surpise for me.

Although I think that results posted here are a bit overoptimistic (It is just human nature that people post more eagerly positive than negative results), it starts to be clear that there is some improvement between 1.3 and 1.4 :)

Third and last match Stockfish 1.4 JA 64-bit against Thinker 5.4Di 64-bit confirms that in one-to-one fight, they are about the same strength.

(2-core/2-core, no pondering, 3GHz Core2 Duo, this time 4'+2" and with the 30 Noomen2008 opening positions)
ended 30.5 - 29.5 (+17 -16 =27)

Werner Schüle has just posted a good result for the single CPU version against Rybka 2.2n2 32-bit on the CEGT 40/20 Coordination forum

2 Rybka 2.2n2 w32 1CPU +11/-12/=27 49.00% 24.5/50

next: Shredder WM Edition 1CPU

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

And now just one last 50 game Engine Match with Stockfish 1.4 (64-bit) versus Nuam (64-bit). Each engine only used 2 cores. This time the extra 100 (Give or Take) elo points proved to be just a tad to much.

I think this is a sensible suggestion, Armando. Anyway, since I like to test different books very much, I prefer to use them. I am conscious that my test are not for a scientists purposes. :-) Only for my own enjoyment.

Regards from Barcelona.
