You got to admit though Ted you are still out of 200.00, you had to be mad, just the principle of someone taking something from you. How did it happen anyway? I don't let mine out of my sight for a second.

With Rybka 3, I get 100 kn/s using Vista 64

My old single processor notebook finally had a fatal crash, long expected. I had backed up what I wanted to save for some time. My new notebook, an HP DVX 18 is great! Vista 64 bit OS, 6GB Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2 x 2.53 GH z, NVIDA GE Force GT 130M video and all for around $1300. Fritz 11 class Benchmark 3.5 million nodes/second (N/s) which is a processor test, not an engine test. The test tells me it recognizes the two threads on my machine.

Rybka 3, the single cpu engine runs under 100k N/s ~ around 75 N/s, slow! Now two threads and 64 bits OS/engine increases the speed all the way up to ~ 130-150 k N/s! My other 64 bit multi-thread programs, Stockfish 1.4 (free and very strong), Zappa Mexico II, Naum 4, Glauring 2.0.1, Deep Sjeng 3.0 and (& World Champ 2008) and Deep Fritz 8 run anywhere from 1.6 Million (M) N/s to 5M N/s depending on program and how many pieces left on the board.

It’s amazing that most of the 64 bit multi-thread programs run from 10 -20+ times faster than Rybka, but Rybka cleans their respective clocks. Speed is far from everything in Computer Chess. I think most will agree that even a notebook with a fast two thread Rybka will most likely beat the world champ, not that Anand would ever play Rybka.

Bigger, do you have a Fritz 9-11 class playing program to run the Fritz Benchmark? Check it out to measure the speed of your processor - there are other ways of doing that, but this is pretty easy. I think you’ll see Rybka is just plain slow, but run engine matches as I have, and most here too, and you’ll see there really is little compettion for Rybka... now maybe Stockfish??

Here is the Fritz Bench Mark from my HP DV7-2180US laptop. I must admit this laptop runs way cooler than I expected for a quad notebook.

I felt much better once I got the insurance check. Yes I was pissed in that something was taken, but it could have been worst. I really only used it for Hulu and Ubuntu Linux, since it was no longer one of my strongest systems anymore.
