I used to had a on-demand antivirus, I mean, only running when I executed it and dont let it to be resident.... but after a bad experience I am considering a normal instalation. What are your experiences with antivirus?
Regardless of the other comments, there is _no_ anti-virus that does not consume resources. They consume a ton of memory for starters, to keep the various virus/spyware signatures handy. They run at all sorts of unexpected times, and when they run, they will cause paging if they have been swapped out due to inactivity.

Bottom line is the best testing platform doesn't have any kind of nonsense running...
