Yes, a lot of other stuff can make your laptop guzzle up batteries. Other than the processor there is the HD and VGA card. I was shocked yesterday when my sister was telling me that she had a 400 GB hard disk on her laptop. I checked in computer management, storage, and to my horror it had 2 seperate HD drives of 200GB each. Add to that a VGA card that probably pulls more wattage than the CPU and a DVD player ... and you have a true battery problem. That particular laptop would last less than 40 minutes without a power supply.Gian-Carlo Pascutto wrote:There are two series of the Core 2 Duo laptop chips, the Txxx series and the Pxxx series. My core-2 duo laptop gets beyond hot when using both cores running crafty. So hot I can not let it sit on my lap.
Please note the videocard and HD can also make quite a bit of heat.
A good laptop today would use a low power CPU and a solid state HDD with minimal requirements for a VGA ... enough to run Blue Ray or HD movies. I believe it should not have a built in optical drive, instead that should be usable via external USB port. You must remember that a laptop is something you should be able to enjoy without a powerplug. On a recent holiday trip I noticed that I kept using my wifes Netbook more than my laptop. I could take it to the pool or even with me to the restaurant when having a coffee and breakfast. No need to worry about batteries since it lasts like 6 hours, and it is soooo light.
