Re: Standings after Round 12 of 44
I'm still curious why this is using a 32 bit version of Crafty when the 64 bit versions are faster??? What is the point of handicapping engines that are designed around 64 bit words, by forcing them to run using 32 bit words, when the hardware appears to be 64 bit capable. This is a good bit beyond "equal hardware" because rather than running all in 64 bit mode (and all would see some improvement due to the extra 8 registers allowing better compiler optimization, even though true 64 bit programs will see even more benefit) and is really a "handicap match" where 64 bit engines are actually penalized.Spock wrote:Yes, if Crafty keeps this up, it will be promoted to Division 1mhull wrote:Improved Crafty off to a good start.

When I move onto running 64-bit engines, I'll discard the 32-bit ones completely.bob wrote:I'm still curious why this is using a 32 bit version of Crafty when the 64 bit versions are faster??? Basically, I don't want to be running tournaments that include a mix of 64-bit and 32-bit engines.
Besides, the quad that I usually run this series on only has a 32-bit OS installed.
Other CCRL testers already do mainly 64-bit testing. I'm just propping up the 32-bit 1CPU list for now.
Cheers,
Graham.
PS - Crafty 23.1 looks impressive. Well done.

OK, if you have a 32 bit O/S you are pretty much stuck with 32 bit applications.Graham Banks wrote:When I move onto running 64-bit engines, I'll discard the 32-bit ones completely.bob wrote:I'm still curious why this is using a 32 bit version of Crafty when the 64 bit versions are faster??? 23.1 is not bad. There is more to come, of course.

I might have overlooked something, but in looking at the current stats, Crafty appeared to not play a game in the last round??? And alfil had played 2 if I recall correctly???

I'll check it out when I get home and correct as necessary. Replaying the Scorpio games messed up the game order in my pgn file.bob wrote:I might have overlooked something, but in looking at the current stats, Crafty appeared to not play a game in the last round???
