2. 1-2 free engines with source code at R3 level!! Who has predicted this?

Maybe Doch as well

Biggest non-surprise? Still no M-Chess UCI

Of course, if you were of a suspicious mind, you'd wonder if there was no better way than to ensure good sales of Rybka 4 than to have new programs from "unknown authors" surpass the previous version in strength.

I'm just saying .... :)

Yes - a theory that seems to be growing in popularity. Certainly not to be pooh-poohed.

(and of course to all authors of legitimate engines, no matter how strong).
We were almost forgotten lately.

The programmers of engines of all strengths deserve our support and gratitude. Don't ever feel discouraged. :D

It seems "strength" has surpassed all else in interest.

I would think for most players just having different engines that play unique styles would be more interesting to study. Some of the "lesser" engines are more colorful

With open source we will reach a time in the future where all top engines will play the same

Besides most engines beat %99.9 percent of us anyway. Can't let all the science ruin the "art" :)

I was the first to advance this hypothesis, in Rybka forum, some time ago (that would be a great marketing idea).

As a very clever italian politician said: If you think the worse, you sin, but, often, you are right...
