kingliveson wrote:Censorship Ahead: The mod team election is before us. I have enjoyed this place for years and recently decided to become a member. A lot is happening in computer chess lately--many see these
events as progress and while some bemoans the death of chess. We have a few individuals here who crave authority over others and would like to institute censorship. The CCC charter is
not written in language difficult to undestand, but for all including the least educated.

Since the past few months, one chess forum that is going down the tubes is Rybka community because a few individuals decided to ignore the demands of those who make the community. Contrary
opinions are censored causing the mass exodus from Rybka forum, and I myself have ceased participation in discussions there. It has gotten so bad that this link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rybka was
removed/censored from one of my postings. How ridiculous?!

So, It seems a few members here want CCC to follow the paths of Rybka forum especially when you have people refusing to apply common sense to common principles. We have a situation where it
happens anyone can lay accusations without offering a grain of evidence, and a mere claim is treated as proof. What planet are these people from?! We are not even dealing with a situation where formal or
informal accusation has been made, but rather hinted, and yet this is sufficient to restrict and
punish?

And it brings me to the point. I refuse to partake in a community that restricts knowledge and free-thinking. I believe in order, however, censorship
hinders progess. I do not believe for one second the majority of people here tolerate piracy of any sort. It occurs to me that there is misunderstanding of the current situation. Those of us on the other side in
essence are simply defending a universally accepted principle; that is, the accused is innocent until proven guilty. This should not be confused with defending illegal behavior.
Accept it or not, you would not want to be accused and condemned without evidence. When one renders judgment without evidencce, everyone is in
danger. Once the authoritarians are in power and proceed to institute censorship, I will formally request that all my postings be deleted as well as my account.

Hi Clare,

I actually think it could be worse than the scenario you describe - all with modifications.

After having complete control on the Rybkaforum, they have now decided to run as mods here. The purpose is the same, ban all talk about engines that are not Rybka.... The mods might not be the same, but the people who are running for mods are hardcore Rybka fans... who don't tolerate any engine ahead of Rybka.
This forum has become a thorn in their eyes where the talk about Clown/or No Clown are openly discussed with no post deleted...., and of course the time has now come for them to do something about it, if they get elected.
Maybe majority of the CCC members here prefer dictators to run this forum? Once they have made themselves comfortable in their seat, it will be very hard for them to leave it...

It's because you have not read with attention the forum last weeks. Have a look at this short analysis:

After the nominations announcement we have the following situation, with five nomination groups:

1. Strong Censorship group, SCG - they want to ban the strongest engine ever from CCC. They already have their team ready to run electios:

- Vasik Rajlich
A - Christopher Conkie
A - Graham Banks
A - Peter Skinner

- Rolf Tueschen
- Eelco de Groot
- Guenther Simon

2. Somewhat Milder Censorship group, SMCG - they want the same, but they avoid personal attacks and defamation.

- Gian-Carlo Pascutto
A - Harvey Williamson
- Miguel Ballicora

3. Neutral group, NG - There is an information that Dr. Hyatt will decline his nomination

(D) Robert Hyatt
A - Jeremy Bernstein
- Swaminathan
- Alexander Schmidt

4. Robbo\Igorrit Supporters, RIS.

- Dr. Wael Deeb
(I doubt Dr. Deeb will have the time for mod activities)

5. Enigmatic group, EG. We don't know much about them.

- Don Dailey
- Thomas Mayer

So, we have 10 nominations of the people who support extremly strong or strong sencorship against the strongest engine ever.
5 nominations of those who are neutral; probably only 4, because Dr. Hyatt will decline his nomination, and only
1 nomination of those who support the strongest engine ever, which may vanish soon.
Finally, we have 2 enigmatic nominations.

So, the Extremists group not only has a numerical superiority, they also has its team ready
A - Christopher Conkie
A - Graham Banks
A - Peter Skinner

Obviously, our only hope is the Neutral group, but the problem is that we even don't know whether Swaminathan and Alexander will accept their nominations.

That's why the democracy on CCC is in danger.

It seems the picture is still not clear and it's a perception issue, so Lets make the picture even clearer.

Well, CCC will simply be renamed to BCS then:
