Hiarcs on move 50 sjeng on 52
This is a record? I do not like this, in the tournaments
I think a maximum of 8 moves, as Graham says, would be sufficient.
People want to see a match between chess programs, not an openings
battle.

I too believe that book-limiting is the correct approach but I now think it should be ECO relative limited, so some lines could be longer than others, like in the chessbase "Import ECO relative length" book building function. This is to make sure that the engine doesn't fall into an easy trap by falling off a main line too early.

In fact i got it wrong Suj tells me Sjeng was in book to 56.

I would not object to a book limit but 8 gives a huge advantage to those on the Clusters. The book is part of the product when you buy Hiarcs you get our book also. Maybe a limit of 25-30

No, I think he's suggesting that this game was in the collection that they used to make their book, which explains their unusual opening move.

No, I remembered that ... Bd6? is also played by Rybka 3.
My conclusion is that we should not make matches between
engines without a book, at least until the 8 move.

but other engines like stockfish ect. dont have a problem with such openings. we should not care about other engines with own failures.
the authors of these engine could improve his own engine.

by the way robbolito played also Bd6 in spanish opening without book.
