At the risk of turning this into an annoying "me too" thread, I would also be interested in testing this personality.

I'm curious to see how these values/changes can help "fire" 1.2 stand up to the 800 versions of IvanHoe.. or as I've taken to calling it, IterativeHoe. :)

Not sure why this personality is a secret ...But I posted here with excellent initial results with my values change ...lets call it the "King Charles" personality ..

It is great though that these "clones" are very configurable --

Anyway for something funny I also have a "suicide bomber" version of firebird -- its perfect to play with for chess beginners.
pawn value=200
bishop value=3
knight value =3
rook=2
queen-1

Have fun!

FireBird 1.20 EP8+

Pawn Hash=64
Pawn Value=120
Rook Value=600
Queen Value=1170
Bishop Pair Value=60
Verification Reduction=8

Here it is,not a secret at all....It played the top 50 engines in my rating list 2 games each and scored 78/100 at slow time controls, followed by Iggorit v9 with 71/100....Rybka 3 and the default FireBird are ranked third and four respectively....

The tournament is still running as 51 engines are playing against each other 2 games....total of 2550 games....
I didn't test it against the default FireBird in a head to head match,I believe it's better to include the modified personality and the default in a big tournament....

Is the knight/bishop values at default 325 ?

Interesting to note -- I wonder if the improvement is mainly due to increasing the power of the pawn relative to the bishop/knight -- that is if you use 325 then it is only 2.7 pawns .. --

I wonder if decreasing the values of rook and queen a bit will change anything ..

But of course if you give a very strong engine -even if it is not the strongest- AND a package full of frills, services, databases, tutorials etc, Chessmaster class but 5 times better, then surely I will purchase.
The times for just-the-engine.get-the-gui-elsewhere are dead.

I have been preaching this since 5 years at least and nobody gave me the due reason I have regards...

Obviously, the value will vary a lot according to the wants and needs of the user, but the plain Fritz 12, Rybka, and Shredder, in the Chessbase packages, offer a lot of value IMHO. There is a slightly hidden element that many people overlook which is what makes it such a good deal: a Premium subscription to Playchess.

Feel free to take this with a grain of salt coming from my lips, since I've been writing articles on this very recently for them, but I still believe it. The Fritz GUI itself is very nice of course, and I won't get into that, but with a Premium account on Playchess, you get more than simply a normal account to play chess on their server.

They run simuls, lectures/classes, and provide live multimedia commentary on major events such as the current Anand-Topalov. The last two rounds were commented by GM Seirawan in English (they had someone else doing it in German). Even if you miss it live, it remains recorded on the server to be replayed whenever you like. You get this for major tournaments, and then there are the lectures on openings, or famous games that take place several times a week in both English and German. As far as I'm concerned, this is really good value for the buck.

You are hopelessly confused it seems. This would never qualify as such. This is a logical reply to Fernando's post, much more than the string of replies on Firebird settings which have nothing to do with the thread's premise.

That's what mods should decide. IMO your post sounds like a typical advertisement brochure exactly like those you are professionally writing for ChessBase.

P.S. I like those "non-personal" euphemisms like "hopelessly confused"... :)

I never wrote an advertisement in my life.

As to "hopelessly confused", it just means you are very confused.
