Please, please, please make it possible for your engine to play using a generic book as an option.

Cheers,
Graham.
You can use a different book, e.g. under Arena or similar, if the book is a "normal" book, e.g. both sides play a series of moves from the start position, rather than the game starting from an arbitrary position. i.e. it supports the "force" command, but not a fen-setup (or whatever it is) command.

Hope this makes some sort of sense?

some remarks: not easy to test, as analyzing does not work - and under Arena with inf time control the engine does not accept stop! Only stop engine process helps after a few seconds!
Brilliant! I will look into this. I bet it's king safety related..

..which indeed it is. King safety on 0.16 is fairly crazy, maybe it needs bringing down a notch or two.

The reason for the draw score is that Francesca thinks that black's king is so open to attack that black will look for a draw (despite being up in material). Toning ks down a bit changes this, and Francesca sees a slight -ve score for white.

Hi Tom,

thanks for replying.
I predominantly use ChessGUI with one of the books provided. I haven't had any success using Francesca with this setup. Guess I'm out of luck. :(
Anyway, thanks for your ongoing efforts in developing your engine.

Cheers,
Graham.

cheers, Graham, I'll take a look at that. I have had francesca run ok under chessGUI, but I will checkout what happens when you try to use one of the provided books.

Hi Tom,

it's possible to release the new version up to 02.05.2011. I will add Francesca in my big tourney with 13.000 new 40-minutes SWCR games. Look in my ToDo list on my start page. Francesca will replace Naraku (clone).

This would be great !!

Thanks for your efforts. Nice to see that you find interest again to work on your engine.

Best and ...
Have a nice weekend!

Hey Frank,

good to hear from you! Your posting has excellent timing - I'm going to release the new version tonight, just finishing off the last few testgames.

I hope I have finally cured a nasty bug which hit when Francesca had a won position. This bug saw clear wins against Glass, another-opponent-I've-forgotten and Philou thrown away in Olivier's openwar tourny.

Just need to sort out the kids bathtime, finish the tests, do some PGO compiles, crack open some red wine, put some tea on to cook, then it should be ready to roll. :) :)

Nice to replace a clone in your tournament. My engine might be 800 points weaker than some of these clones, but it's mine, warts and all.
