You have made it clear that your work was copied without acknowledgment.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,
this explains your over 2400 postings and 216 versions of ChessGUI. Was version 0199 not the final one ?

The problem is how frequently you repeat it. You also want to blame them for too much, and at the wrong place.
BTW, I appreciate it a lot if other people answer ChessGUI questions so that I can keep a lower profile. I think I have already exceeded those 40 posts required before the next elections.
Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Hi Michael,Michael Diosi wrote:No. it is nice. I have made several stuff but I don't want to see it copied without citing, that's the reason.
I'm probably the wrong person to say this, but it's not worth getting worked up over such things, even though it is disappointing that they happen. Enjoy your hobby without letting others ruin it for you.
I think I can say with certainty that most Arena users appreciate the efforts of all those involved in developing the Arena project.
Have a nice weekend.
Cheers,
Graham.

Everyone has been commenting frequently how Houdini is just a copy of Robbolito with changes.......manufactured to make it palatable to the masses. It is not so different. A spade is a spade. For example the frequency with which people say Rybka is Fruit has increased over time. There is a body of evidence that says that this is so. How then can it be any different that when things are copied verbatim in another sphere no one cares?. Is it because certain people out there are only concerned with one thing? You see it is in human nature that people want to be good at something......Matthias Gemuh wrote:You have made it clear that your work was copied without acknowledgment.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,

Should the strength of an engine out way everything. It never has for me. I have no idea about you but if I were to guess, I would say that your favourite engine is BigLion.
People like computer chess for different reasons. The moist (I decided to leave the typo btw) wholesome reason I personally ever found was that I liked chess. I liked the game of chess ever since I read the book of the same name by Harry Golombek.
Those who seek to undermine that love will always fail. They can talk elo until the cows come home as far as I am concerned but if they show no love of the game itself at any level......I put them in the bucket rapid.
Michael puts them in the bucket here. Is that any different from what you might do to your average cloner?
Fact will always be fact and fiction will always be fiction.
Some people do this for love not money. Those that fit neither case probably do it because free means what it is you can take without being noticed.

The 3 seem stronger than BigLion, though I have never played enough games to comfirm it.

Robbolito, Stockfish and Critter? It's good that you have expanded your horizons by naming everything you like.Matthias Gemuh wrote:I like BigLion, but my favorite engines are Houdini, Stockfish, Critter.Christopher Conkie wrote:Everyone has been commenting frequently how Houdini is just a copy of Robbolito with changes......Matthias Gemuh wrote:You have made it clear that your work was copied without acknowledgment.Michael Diosi wrote:Hi,

Maybe Robert went through Robbolito source code forwards and backwards and took many things, indeed.Christopher Conkie wrote:Robbolito, Stockfish and Critter? But that is known to increase engine strength only by 20 Elo.

Hello Christopher,
As I have said to Michael privately and publicly, I understand his considerable displeasure at what was done to his/your pages. It took effort, love and creativity - much like creating a chess engine I suppose - and it was given away for free.
Then it gets ripped without any acknowledgement and that is wrong.
I get that. I believe everyone gets that.
I have asked Michael and I will ask you.
Who suffers the most here?
In a twisted sort of way, isn't it the bad guys who win when he withdraws?
I am NOT trying to convince him otherwise, just pointing something out.
Later.
