Both sides have certainly played extremely well, but I find the choice of opening quite boring. So far I've only seen some closed Ruy Lopez, ending up in drawish pawn structures. I'd love to see some sharper openings to spice things up a little.tomgdrums wrote:I have only been able to check once in awhile but the positions in these games have looked really interesting!
A good match so far (so it seems)

Re: Chess_Myth_Buster
Hi all
just to make the things more clear:
I dont play any ponder ON game with a PC that has hyperthreading activated!!
e.g. All games for my The Base T4pO project are played on the PC that plays right now the Houidini - Junior match, or on 2 similar i5 2500 PCs which engines are connected by using the netchess tool.
The PC who play this Houdini - Junior match is a supermicro server. It has two W5580 cpus (Nehalem) on board. So it is a real octa PC which would have 16 threads if hyperthreading is activated.
I thought it was easy to understand because the name CPU is called if it is real cpus, and the name THREADS is called if HT is activated.
But no problem, I think now it is more clear
Enjoy the match, Houdini striked back in game 5.
best regards, Clemens Keck

Ah ok, they are each running on a different machine. In this case it makes perfect sense to use pondering.Hugo wrote:Hi all

So are they running on the same machine ? I'm not sure I understand correctly, but you're saying that Houdini's machine is different, and it playes other games at the same time?

Junior and houdini play on one machine.
these machine has 2 W5580 quad cpus on board. HT is OFF.
Only this match is running at the machine...
Shall I make a photo from the box
? (kidding, sorry)
The other thing I mentioned is another project from me, which is paused right now(T4pO). This project(T4pO) will be continued, it is 20 +5, 4cpu, ponder ON. You can find it on my webpage.

Game 6 is getting very interesting now. Houdini is a pawn down and Junior has a connected passed pawn, but its king situation is good compensation for Houdini to exploit. I don't know who's going to win, but it's certainly going to be interesting. Although my money would go on Houdini if the game becomes open and tactical like this.

Re: Chess_Myth_Buster
Thank you Clemens for setting this match. Very interesting. I saw other games on playchess and i see that this dj13 is so weak at short tc and so incredibly strong at (very) long tc.Hugo wrote:Hi all
after the weak performance of the new Deep Junior 13 engine in my 5 +3 gauntlet, I heared roumors about how strong DJ13 is at long time controlls.
Reason enough for me to start a match to find out a little about those myths.
Conditions :
engine match between Houdini 1.5a and Deep Junior 13.
Both engines 4 CPU, ponder ON, 4 GB hashtables.
Houdini 1.5a uses full gaviota(6GB)
Deep Junior 13 uses Nalimov 3-4-5 some 6( 40GB)
10 moves from Hiarcs book.
timecontroll 40/120min + 40/120min + 120min
games are broadcasted (not verry comfortable). Please refresh every 5 min.

But the fact that surprises me more is that dj13 is able to resist for many many moves after Houdini gets advantage when usually other engines quickly drop down.
But there's a fact that surprises me more: DJ fights till king vs king. I saw in playchess DJ win apparently lost or totally drawn games or save desperated positions.
And has a very different style of play compared to Houdini.
Impressive.
But the results in blitz are horrible

I am still on the fence on whether or not I will buy the new Junior (I probably will)MM wrote:Thank you Clemens for setting this match. Very interesting. I saw other games on playchess and i see that this dj13 is so weak at short tc and so incredibly strong at (very) long tc.Hugo wrote:Hi all

I would like to see a match of LONG time controls between Junior 13 and Komodo 4. That might be a cool match as well.

In game 9. Houdini displays mate, but Junior 0,00
I think Houdini 1.5a is definitely a better buy!

Hi Jouni, i found some strange evaluations by dj but anyway i must admit it is a very strong player at long time control.Jouni wrote:In game 9. Houdini displays mate, but Junior 0,00I think Houdini 1.5a is definitely a better buy!

If you have something precise, please tell to the hiarcs team too, that will send the communicaton to dj developpers. Just if you want.

Re: Chess_Myth_Buster
especially considering that Houdini 1.5a is free. all rating lists will agree, given a sufficient number of games tht H1.5a is significantly stronger than DJ13, even at long time control (and a lot more so at blitz or bullet tc)Jouni wrote:In game 9.
