Probably the incremental time helps Komodo a lot.

Longer time controls seem to really help Komodo, but at the faster time controls Houdini, Critter, are Strelka are just better! I while ago I ran a long time control match between Strelka and Komodo, Komodo won. However, I played a round robin tournament a few weeks ago with a time control of sudden death in 3min. Komodo came in dead last behind Houdini, Stelka, Critter, and Vitruvius C & H. The whole family of Ipp* engines are almost unbeatable at blitz when compared to the other strong engines. Interesting!

I am not sure exactly what diff. people mean when they say long time controls. But let me say this to be very clear on where I stand. I consider 40/20 repeating a long time control. I have never had results that varied more than a slight slight bit from 40/20 to 40/40. And Komodo has not done much ag. the top 3 engines at 40/20. And I have never and will never run even 1 match in my life that starts with 40 moves in the first 2.5 hours. I had rather watch paint dry.

Best,

george

You will get no arguements from me regards you time controls or your testing results. Obviously, you are a pro tester! I do not fall into the same catergory. Although, our reasons for why we test engines is completely different. I play the engine matches so that I can later annotate the games and improve my own play. Whereas, your method is a "true testers" method and allows for much more accurate strength comparisions. I watch and/or play over every single game. It's to bad you do not make your games available for download. I'd check them out too!

Even regarding the beta testing of Vitruvius, I would and still continue to send only select games to Roberto. Those being the games which I believe are the most brilliant. In the past I also explained what I believed the engine was doing wrong. In early beta I remember when Vitruvius was sacking material and was not getting enough compensation. However, after telling Roberto (I am sure many of us did this, maybe not) what Vitruvius was doing wrong (in some games), I believe Vitruvius has no equal when playing games with passed pawns versus the sacked material.

Different folks, different strokes. Keep up the good work!

Robert, you are completely wrong! And I suppose it is my fault. Early on about 6 months ago I mentioned in every match result thread that the PGNs were available to anyone wanting them. I joked around about being overwhelmed by requests, but daily results for 2.5 straight months produced not one request. So I said the hell with it. And I stopped mentioning it. I should not have, and for that I apologize to you. Tho I do not have a website- a PM here to me with an address to send the files to- you will receive my results of any matches or number of matches of your choice. Very quickly-unless I am asleep. But when I awake- that will be the first thing I take care of. NO ONE will ever have their address given out by me. And your name and address will auto go into my contact list- so the first PM will be the only time you have to worry with that. All you need to do from then on is just tell me here what you want.

And let me just add something about different time controls. Be careful of judging engines that have to have certain controls that suit them. A true No. 1 engine will play any time, anywhere, at any time control. It will play an engine at midnight in a swamp full of snakes and gators in a driving thunderstorm. That is why it is No.1.

Just let me know which PGNs you want. Feel free before you request to look back over a number of past matches here, and just tell me the match and posting date.

Best,

george

PS: Just be aware that any matches before March 25 of this year will all be 32-bit matches! (As for me being a "pro tester"- you are being a bit too kind.)

Excellent! I am very interested in all your Vitruvius H testing. I am on Roberto's mailing list. If you cannot see it let me know. I'll send you a private message. Thank-you!
