Ansari is right. Any technician can fix that for a fraction of a new, even mediocre comp.
But maybe you are totally immersed in US culture of purchasing new thing. I am immersed in the culture of fixing everything and keep it running until really they fall in pieces.

My old Q6600 has died....

I was looking for a new computer, and curious which processor you guys would recommend. I am looking at spending $600-$800, so nothing too high end.

I read a few other treads, but most where 5 months or older.

How old is your computer. If i have one go bad after 2-3 years i just buy a new one. Try getting someone to fix it end up with a big bill and you still got an old computer. Spend 800-1000 and get a good one.

I recently replaced the motherboard on my Q6600. It was a lot cheaper than buying a new computer. Worth looking at for sure.
However, if you want a new computer that is good value for money and not too expensive, the Intel i5 is a good choice.

Seriously, buy a new Ivy Bridge or refurbished Sandy Bridge. Don't waste good money against bad.
