If Houdini 3 is that strong, then I would definitely say that Deep Rybka 5 - if it will be released -will be stronger than Houdini 2.c Pro but weaker than Houdini 3. So again Houdini will be number 1 for a very long time, at least for 2 years. And Houdini on its maximum cores can compete head-to-head at long time controls with Rybka Cluster. Congratulations Robert! IF Deep Rybka 5 is released this year, then you could make the same test against it. Are you planning to develop Houdini up to the 5th version? All the best!

We know nothing about the strength of Rybka5 so your conclusion is wrong.

We do not know if it is stronger than Houdini2.
We do not know if it is weaker than Houdini3.
We do not know if there is going to be Deep Rybka5.

We also do not know nothing about the playing strength of Rybka cluster in long time control.

I am allowed to make any statements which by now are mathematically correct. You said : we don't know...... After all, don't you wanna know? is that hard to make a test against Rybka Cluster after Houdini 3 is released? It is very likely that Deep Rybka 5 will not be released, as we don't have any news from its programmer... And you can't say I'm wrong.

you're right! Rybka 3 was fantastic at its time! Now Houdini 3 is outstanding and overwhelming! Probably no engine will catch Houdini 3 in the next 2 years...

The second match just finished.

Final result of the Houdini 3 - Stockfish 2.3.1 match: +44 -16 =60
74-46 (+82 Elo ± 42 Elo).
Download Games

Final result of the Houdini 3 - Houdini 2.0c match: +48 -15 =57
76.5-43.5 (+94 Elo ± 42 Elo).
Download Games

The results of both matches have very large confidence intervals, please consider these when discussing results.
My impression is that Houdini 3 had a very favorable run against Houdini 2.0c and a slightly unfavorable run against Stockfish 2.3.1.
Neither engine scored 40% against Houdini 3, let's see whether Komodo 5 fares any better.

Houdini 3 - Komodo 5 match has now started - no games finished yet.

My impression is that Houdini 3 is tuned against Houdini 2.0c and will have a certain unfavorable run when facing a suffiecient number of the top chess engines such as Critter,Rybka,Stockfish,Komodo and even weaker opponents down the rating list....

I mixed both matches and I get approximately a perf +66 above Houdini 2. That's very acceptable for a new version. Congratulations again !
