Update: I realized what I was doing wrong. One must type --xboard, (not -xboard, with one dash) in the command line field for it to work. One extra character makes a world of difference :oops:
Hello Carl !

Nice to hear that you solved all the problems !

Using Winboard engines on Arena GUI needs a short clasification of these engines:

A.- minimalistic: fixed hash, accessing any egtb database , no MP capabilities , no settings...........just browse and select the .exe;

B.-having a configuration file (.ini, .cfg or a lot of other various names). Sometimes you can set here a lot of parameters (hash, egtb path , and many, many more). See please ZChess, EXChess, KnightDreamer and near all the WB army;

C.-WB engines without a configuration file but accepting command lines . Here is Typhoon (be careful to the same set command "--"); BugChess2 (here you have arguments style "-hashsize", "-nolog" & so on); Dirty.........

D.- a nice mixture between B. & C. For example Arabian Knight has a configuration file but you need in Arena GUI (or in the Wb2UCI.eng for Fritz GUI) the command line "xboard" to avoid the GUI (AK has his nice own GUI).

Maybe sometime somebody ( a Maestro, for sure :lol: ) will be kindly enough to write a book for computer chess fans. Will be nice !

Have a nice day, Carl !

SilvianR :wink:

NR:Like bonus:

if you want to use Chenard under Fritz - in its Wb2Uci.eng file please don't miss the line:

MateScore=29000

Just for a correct GUI adjudication.

Thanks again, Ruxy! Typhoon comes with a nicely written manual, so I was able to configure it correctly (and funny thing, this was just yesterday!)

Cheers,
CL

PS. Chenard beat P.I. +9-0=1, after drawing the first game. Nifty little engine, I recommend it for sparring.
