I use the free version of Bitdefender. Generally I love it (because it unobtrusive). Unfortunately when developing and testing it often flags Maverick as a potential virus and kills the process. I have flagged the EXE as an exception but I suppose after every build it has a different signature and the problem repeats. I literally need to turn Bitdefender off when developing - which is not great.
So.....
What's the best virus software when developing chess apps?
Does the full version of Bitdefender have better exclusion features (e.g. exclude whole folder from scan)?

Mac OS X is Unix based so it is included in your answerbob wrote:[...]

Buying a Mac only for a chess engine could be a lot expensive. Switching to Linux/Unix only for this purpose maybe is not the best solution, it need or a new machine, a dual boot or a virtualization software. I think that you couldn't solve the problem changing operating system, because he should test its software on Windows too.
On windows, i use only MSE, since i've abandoned Avast. I know that is not the best protection but it's lite and it should be enough a little attention to email received and web sites you visits, to avoid viruses.
So, the best anti-virus software is... prudence!
