Looks like you're right. Thanks for pointing this out.

GnuCheese is an independent fork of the venerable GNU Chess 5.07 chess
engine.

GnuCheese is unrelated to GNU Chess 6 which has been released by the
Free Software Foundation and which is a rebranded Fruit engine.

Currently GnuCheese is about 180 elo stronger than GNU Chess 6 at the
time control of 40 moves per 60 seconds.

This project was originally started as an attempt ot fix a number of
well-known bugs in GNU Chess 5.07 which dragged down its intrinsic
strength. A number of updated versions were released, the most recent
one being GNU Chess 5.60. To reduce the possibility of confusion with
GNU Chess 6, the engine has now been renamed as GnuCheese 1.00. This
is the name under which the 5.xx versions have been playing 24/7 on
FICS since 2009.

GnuCheese supports both the UCI and the CECP (xboard) protocol for
seamless integration with every possible Chess GUI.

GnuCheese supports Gaviota endgame table bases, allowing for more
accurate endgame play.

GnuCheese supports the autoregistration standard created by Harm Geert
Muller (the maintainer of xboard). After installation GnuCheese will
automagically appear in xboard as an installed engine. This is also
true for any other GUI supporting this standard.

GnuCheese compiles seamlessly on Windows, Linux and Android.

Never heard of it, but I'll take a look.
Here is Michael's post regarding GNU Chess 5.60 - http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54418

Thanks for the post link.

Also, there is a newer release of the official GNU Chess 6 (gnuchess-6.2.0-rc1.tar.gz). Is this GNU fork of Fruit 2.1 (with 2015 updated release) slated for review by CCRL?

I think it could be in the 40/4 list, but it's not currently in the 40/40 list.

Couldn't find GNU Chess 6 anywhere in any CCRL list. I assume because 6.0 is just Fruit 2.1 (no need for duplication).

However, there is now a GNU Chess 6.2.0 release from January 2015.

If it's still being developed, no harm in including it.
Does one of the download links include a Windows exe though?

I don't think so. Maybe someone around here has already built one and could donate it (I don't have a windows machine with dev tools).

No problem. Thanks for making me aware of what has happened though.

I don't think that GnuCheese is a very helpful name choice because there is already an engine called Cheese.
