Hi Sergei,

at first, thanks for your new SmarThink version!!
You know that I like your engine a lot.

With your 1.70 I had some problems. 5.350 games v1.70 played (on i7 4.0 Ghz with around 45 minutes per game).

1. I have to deactivate the tablebases (to many lost on time games with tablebases). But all the time good to see in my available stats that Smarthink have an advantage to other engines with around the same playing strength in endgames. Means, clear to see that you do here a lot for SmarThink.

2. After around each 200 games your engine will not set mate without tablebases in better Position and game ended draw. The reason that I have to look in each of the end positions for all of the 5.350 games (games are corrected, replayed).

I am sure you saw that and you fixed it for 1.80?!
I hope I can used SmarThink 1.80 with tablebases and without the problems I had with 1.70.

Again, have thanks for SmarThink, on my ToDo list and have to wait. I try to added more engines for a third League system and at the moment all new updates have to wait.

Best
Frank

Hello!

I've added some new builds, please re-download archive. One of them should work :)

if you download this .dll and copy it into the engine folder : you can start testing.
Oh yes, thanks. I am a bit reluctant to download such files from unreliable sources.

EDIT: I conquered my reluctance, downloaded the dll and it works. The file without SSE3 is slightly faster. :?
Hello!

I've added some new builds, please re-download archive. Some of them should work w/o Intel redistributable package DLLs :)

The WinXP standalone version on WinXP SP3 / Core 2 Duo 3 GHz @3.6 GHz / 2 GB RAM in Fritz 15 GUI with 512 MB hash:

Tried clearing the book options in Engine Properties, still crashes. The other two 32-bit builds included in the download are not recognized as valid execs by WinXP..

On the 12-core/48 GB Xeon box (Win 7 Pro x64, F15 GUI) I tried all the x64 builds except the AVX one (not compatible with my system). Every one loaded locked into 1 CPU core (i.e. can't change the number of threads), the time counter window is the only one that works, all other windows remain blank. After a few seconds - an exception error from the GUI.

Conclusion: at this stage SmarThink v1.80 is not usable.

SmarThink has never been able to use more than 1 core as far as I'm aware.

SmarThink, an UCI/WB compatible chess engine by Sergei S. Markoff written in plain C. The engine contains a lot of knowledge to guide the search, and has an aggressive attacking style. SmarThink uses original techniques in search and evaluation based on complex analysis including the use of ideas of Mikhail Botvinnik. SmarThink played various tournaments in Russia, and became Russian computer chess champion in 2004, CIS computer chess champion at the CCCCISC 2005, and third at the CCCCISC 2008 behind WildCat and Strelka. New version, 1.40 (r2040) is free. Sorry, at the moment, only single-processor Intel (x32, x64/SSE3, x64/AVX) versions are available.

Thank You Mr Markoff......SmarThink has spanned across the generations
(along with Greko and Alfil) My first SmarThink was v0.7 and with 1.70 and now v 1.80 SmarThink again reaches close to the Mountaintop!
Congrats Comrade Markoff!! Best Wishes.....AR :)
